Garry, For the past three years we have lots all of our potatoes to voles. I decided to tyr your barrel method. I do not have access to the compost you used, so I tried the following mixture - filled two barrels (one barrel same as yours cut in half. 2 large buckets (about 8 gallons) peat moss, 1 40 lb bag of top soil (Home Depot), 1 40 lb bag of Black Cow Manure, 2 scoops 10-10-10 fertilizer, and 20 lbs of play sand. The barrels had plenty of drainage holes and I used your black pipe water system. I watered every couple of days. I planted in April. The plants have died down, but there are no potatoes. Do you have a better soil recipe? Suggestions?
